Lakewood Ranch Library Set To Open January 12th!

In the heart of Lakewood Ranch, a new literary haven is gearing up to make its mark. The upcoming Lakewood Ranch Library, set to open its doors on January 12th, is more than just a repository of books – it’s a community hub designed to cater to diverse interests.

Recently, the library received a substantial boost with the arrival of 42 pallets of books, a generous contribution from the Friends of the Lakewood Ranch Library, coupled with a matching donation from the Manatee Library Foundation. The library, housed in a striking two-story, 50,000-square-foot building designed by Fawley Bryant Architecture, is a testament to local collaboration, with Willis Smith Construction playing a pivotal role in bringing the project to fruition.

The mammoth task of unpacking 4,700 boxes of books was not undertaken alone; members of the Lakewood Ranch Business Alliance joined forces with the library staff. Together, they stocked the shelves, transforming the expansive space into a literary haven that now boasts 39,000 books, audiobooks, and DVDs, with a capacity for 47,000.

The library’s commitment to the community goes beyond literature. With features like a rooftop terrace for events, an outdoor play area for children, and a makerspace equipped with high-end tools like sewing machines and 3D printers, it’s a multifaceted space designed to foster creativity and engagement.

Notably, the library reflects the changing dynamics of technology, with a limited number of computers (12 in total) complemented by a focus on providing reliable wifi. The reading room features private cubbies with outlets for laptop users, catering to the modern reader who often brings their own device.

District 5 Commissioner Ray Turner praised the facility, acknowledging its significance as more than just a library. The Lakewood Ranch Library is poised to offer a range of programming, starting with in-house classes and story times, gradually expanding to include external instructors and diverse activities.

As the final touches are put in place, the Lakewood Ranch Library stands ready to open its doors, not just as a repository of books but as a dynamic community space, weaving together literature, technology, and creativity in the fabric of Lakewood Ranch’s cultural tapestry.
